Activity: Have an energy saving day

It is very important to try to save as much energy as possible. As well as saving money from your electricity and petrol bills, it helps reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

30% of the UK’s total energy use is in the home, 20% of the UK’s total emissions of carbon dioxide come from road transport.
This activity is designed to help young people think about different ways of using energy. They need to select the right word so that Katy has an energy efficient day.
Katy’s radio wakes her at 7 o’clock. She turns her radio and goes downstairs to make a cup of tea for her and her mum. She fills the kettle and has a while it is boiling. Once she is dressed and has had her breakfast she turns of the lights off before going to school. Her mum gives her a lift to school .
Katy and her friends work hard all day making sure to use of the paper in their work books. For her lunch Katy has some sandwiches, an apple and a can of lemonade. When she has finished she puts the apple core and drops the lemonade can .
Katy’s mum comes to meet her after school and then they go shopping. When they get home, Katy watches telly while her mum makes curry for tea. When it is ready Katy the telly and eats dinner with her mum. While Katy washes up with a sink of water her mum puts the left over curry in the fridge . Later in the evening Katy and her mum decide they are too hot so they .
When they go upstairs to bed they turn the telly and all the lights . Katy cleans her teeth making sure the taps running.
