Wych Hazel
In Britain and Europe they use the common hazels forked twigs for water-divining. The word wych is old english for 'pliant', this qaulity has long been used by water diviners, who look for water by passing two hazel twigs over an area and they cross or move in the hands of the dowser when water is found. The early settlers in North America gave Wych Hazel it's name as they though the leaves of the American species looked like those of the common hazel of Britain.
